Requirement 8 - Your school must have systems and procedures to listening to students, effectively capture their voice, and empower them to express their views.
Children and young people need to be listened to.
Your system for engaging students in safeguarding and capturing their voice will be particular to your school. Schools should as a minimum ensure students:
• Know what safeguarding is and what it means for them including all aspects of online harm.
• Know what behaviour is - and isn’t acceptable at school and online.
• Know they’ll always be listened to and taken seriously if they have concerns about their well-being. Having systems that capture the child’s voice is crucial.
• Know who the DSL and, if there is a team, the safeguarding team are and how to contact them if they ever need to.
• You regularly enforce the message that their safety and well-being is important.
